Decatur, TX — Garland Christian Academy’s playoff run came to a dramatic close Tuesday night in a 69–66 overtime loss to Victory Christian Academy. In a contest that featured constant swings, clutch moments, and postseason intensity from start to finish, neither team ever led by more than seven points. The opening quarter set the tone immediately. Both sides traded baskets with playoff‑level urgency, ending the first eight minutes tied at 18–18. The Swords continued to show poise in the second quarter, executing well in the half‑court and taking a 32–30 lead into the halftime break. The third quarter remained a defensive grind, with each possession carrying weight. Garland Christian held a slim 43–42 edge heading into the fourth, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. In the final minute of regulation, Victory Christian sophomore Jaylen Donald buried a deep three‑pointer with 20 seconds remaining, giving the Patriots a 56–55 lead and igniting the home crowd. Garland Christian responded on the next possession, attacking immediately. Aiden Tiet was fouled driving to the rim and stepped to the free‑throw line with the season on the line. Tiet’s first attempt rimmed out, but with composure he knocked down the second, tying the game at 56–56. A strong defensive stand by the Swords forced the game into overtime. In the extra period, Victory Christian found its breakthrough. Donald continued his late‑game heroics, and senior guard JR Suarez added clutch baskets as VCA built the largest lead held by either team all night. The Swords rallied late, trimming the deficit and refusing to fold, but the Patriots held on as time expired. Despite the final score, Garland Christian displayed toughness, grit, and heart throughout the playoff showdown. Their ability to compete in a hostile road environment and push the game to the brink reflected the growth and resilience of the team this season. Season Wrap‑Up The loss brought an end to a season defined by perseverance, unity, and steady improvement for the Swords. Garland Christian battled through adversity, embraced new roles, and found its stride as the year progressed.
